Bespoke Reporting Schema for a London-based Housing Charity
Type Bespoke Reporting Schema
Client Housing Charity, London
Brief To create an online version of a series of electronic management information reports (MIRs), which we had previously developed.
Description We developed a series of electronic management information reports (eMIRs) and a system for controlling which user has access to which reports and cost centre(s). A 'top MIR' was devised for users who require data about the whole organisation, and others were devised for users who needed only some of the information.
Platform SQL Server Reporting Services 2005
Details We developed and implemented a series of eMIRs for users at various levels in the organisation to view their budget and actual financial results for a given period or periods. Senior management users can access multiple cost centres (or the entire organisation) while individual cost centre managers can see only their own data. The system has grown over the years and now comprises the following elements:
  • Top MIR - for director level users to see the performance of the organisation as a whole. From here users can drill down to data about individual cost centres and to individual nominal codes
  • Management summary MIR - for senior managers. Users can view the performance of the organisation split into income, direct costs and central overheads. A summary report for each of the areas exists as a drill-down.
  • Budget Holder MIR - for senior managers. Users select cost centre groups and date ranges. From here they can drill down to data about individual cost centres and then to individual nominal codes.
  • Cost Centre MIR - for cost centre managers. From here, users can retrieve data about individual nominal codes
  • Usage reports - administrators can see which users have been looking at which reports and when. This means that the organisation can see which managers are keeping an eye on their reports and can manage reports that are not being used or are not helpful
All spreadsheets have columns for periods and rows for nominal codes or nominal code/account.
