Brief | To pick up support on an existing 3-tier client-server system in use at a Government department and continue support for 2½ - to 3 years while a replacement application was developed elsewhere. |
Description | We took on support and development of an existing claims management system, from an existing supplier who had been forced to downsize and lost their development capability as a result. Over the term of our contract, we supplied two upgrades to the system, working in conjunction with the department’s IT contractor. |

Details | The application had 25 users, and had originally been designed to be 3-tier to ensure scalability for the future. The system comprised a front-end application, a series of business objects which retrieved and saved data from and to the database and some sophisticated XML-based search facilities. Over the term of our contract, we had to supply builds (with various enhancements) to suit two departmental IT schemas, one based on Windows 2000 and one based on Windows XP. In addition to the VB6 code, the system comprised a series of Crystal reports delivered using the Crystal runtime components and a small utilities program we devised to allow the system administrator to correct errors in a couple of key parts of the system. |
